Connie's Connections-Howell, Womack, Moree, Durham & Others
My GGGGF was Alexander WOMACK, born about 1797, in Virginia. He later lived in North Carolina, where he married (1) Mary Neal, and (2) Freelove THOMPSON, my GGGGM. In the late 1830's, they moved to Polk Co., Tn., where they remained until the 1860's. About the time of the Civil War, they settled in McMinn Co.,where they stayed until their deaths. Between the two wives, Alexander had 13 children. Pleasant Howell(b.abt. 1828) was the son of Lavinia/Vina/Viney Howell. Pleasant married Sarah Barns in Roane County, TN in 1845. They are listed on both the 1850 & 1860 Roane Co., TN Census. By 1870, Sarah & children are in Polk Co., TN, without Pleasant. Family rumor states he died fighting for the South during the Civil War, however I am not too sure of that. His last child was not born until 1866, and the war ended in 1865!! Several of their children settled in Oklahoma & Texas after 1880. My Davis family were in Hamilton Co., TN from at least 1830. Robert N. Davis married Ann Eliza Lee/Lea in 1857 in Hamilton Co. Ninevah Calvin Durham was born circa 1882-1884. He married Susannah Lusk, from the pioneer Lusk family of Marion Co., TN. Ninevah (Ninner) was murdered while working for the railroad in Chattanooga in 1920. feudal Dorset and its yeoman farmers (the Balstons), to maritime Fifeshire at the time of King James 111 (the Woods, who number among their ilk the celebrated sea Admiral Sir Andrew Wood of Largo and the renowned Victorian explorer Captain John Wood), to the Tower of London in the early eighteenth century and its tipple loving Master Armourer John Grimer, and to rural Gloucestershire where my earliest traced Trinder ancestor is found farming in Bishops Cleeve, Nr. Cirencester. Later travels in time brought me to the Pinwills of Ermington, Devonshire, including The Reverend Edmund Pinwill and his seven highly talented daughters who set up their own carving business. Their ancesters included the Rashleighs of Menabilly, Cornwall including Jonathan Rashleigh of Civil War fame, made famous by Daphne Du Maurier's novel The King's General.
