Origin of walker, Meaning of walker
Origin: The surname Walker is an 'occupational' name that derives from the term used to describe a fuller of cloth. Before the invention of mills and machines for fulling, wool was cleaned and thicken by being soaked in water and trampled under foot, and the people who did this came to be given the name Walker, due to their occupation of 'walking' on the wool. As a consequence of this the surname is most frequent in the traditional textile heartland's of northern England, such as Yorkshire. In fact one of the earliest Walker's on record is one Robert le Walker who is mentioned in the Yorkshire Assize Rolls for the year 1260.

Origin of walker, Meaning of walker
Origin: The origin of the name Walker is strange and unique. Through what Brandon said that is true. However, it is not uncommon to have different Walker's all over the UK and Ireland. Walker was also a name loyal to the McGregor clan in Scotland and also a northern english name. However Walker was also found throughout Ireland as non linked families to the ones in Scotland and england who were also seperate from each other. In the name Walker, there are many many different links your family can be part of. If your family derives from Ireland then it's probably close to Sligo or Derry where they came from, hence two of the hardest hit areas during the famine. If england then they were from the northern part near the Scottish border and if from Scotland, probably the areas closely related to the McGregor clan. Ben Walker - Irish Walkers
