Origin of ross, Meaning of ross
Origin: I am not sure that Crosson is the correct way to spell this name. It may be spelled Crossan. My grandmother came from Donegal, Ireland around 1914 or 1915, arriving in the port of Wilmington, Delaware. Her mother was Catherine(nee: Daly) and Thomas Crosson. They resided in the Parish of Raphoe.

Origin of ross, Meaning of ross
Origin: This name actually derived from the Gaelic 'Mac an Chrosain'. Therefore, you will often see several variations... Crossin, Crossan, Crosson, MacCrossan, McCrossin, etc. I am in the process of trying to establish my geneaology of my Crossin name. My paternal grandparents split up when my dad was only 5 years old(1948). My real grandfather was a Frank Crossin from Philadelphia(approx 1915-1980?). That's about all I know. But I'm still looking for info...

Origin of ross, Meaning of ross
Origin: There are two possible origins and meanings. One possibility, (and probably the more common one) is that it's Scots Gaelic for "promontory." The other is that it is an old form of German meaning "horse" carried by Austrian Jews.
