He married Harriet Palmer (1840-?), also of NY and parents born in NY. Their son, Arthur DeVere Carpenter (1865-1958) was my grandfather. He married Grace Murdock. John Jnr came to Australia in 1883 on the ship the scottich Hero.
Margaret married a George Hartwell the had on daughter Elizabeth Bridget who married a Henry Littlewood. They had a number of children but the only one that I can confirm is a Norah Littlewood. Norah married a Stanford, and they had a son James.
