My Great-Grandfather Charles (Karl) Baschnagel was born in the Grand Duchy of Baden (Germany) in 1850 and came to this country in 1864. He married Anna Schneider in Scranton, PA and together they had 3 children, Margaret, Elizabeth and Charles. They later moved to New York City (Manhattan), NY. My Grandfather Charles married Christina Renner and together they had 3 children, Helen, Arthur and Walter. They later moved to Kingston, NY. My father Walter married Marion Thomas and together they had 2 children, Margaret and Walter. My Great-Grandfather William (Johann Wilhelm) Thomas was born in Wilgersdorf, Prussia in 1824 and came to this country in 1852 with his wife Catherine Kutcher and son, Henry (Heinrich), and settled in Kingston, NY. He and Catherine had 4 children, one of whom was my Grandfather Charles Thomas. My Grandfather Charles Thomas married Isabella Archambault with whom he had 14 children, one of whom was my mother Marion Thomas. My wife's paternal grandparents were John Oliver Smith and Elizabeth Johnson. They resided in Ridgefield Park, Middlesex County, New Jersey in 1910 with four children, one of whom was John Oliver Smith(Jr), her father. Her maternal grandparents were Imre (James) Nemeth and Anna Mesic. They immigrated from Hungary prior to 1915 and were married in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on May 22, 1915, where they resided until their death. They had five children one of whom was her mother, Anna Nemeth. Barcom from Wisconsin and Canada, Meier later changed to Meyer from Wisconsin decended from John Meier in Germany, Johnston from the West Monroe, Oswego County New York area and the Sheboygan County Wisconsin area and Zettel from Wisconsin decended from Sebastian Zettel of Germany, the area of Bavaria. The name Barcom stems from the French name Berthiuame and is spelled by some branches as Barcomb, Barcome and several others. Zettel is sometimes spelled Zettl. Sebastian, Maria and their three children settled in Leroy, Wisconsin. Son Joseph later moved to West Bend, Washington, Wisconsin while daughter Maria, Teresa and son Xaver remained in the Leroy area . Joseph's son Albert settled in Baron, Wisconsin while the rest of his children remained in the West Bend area. Johan Meier settled in Washington County Wisconsin and his children settled primarily in the West Bend and Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. Frieda Elsbeth Nagel was born in Charlottenburg, Germany February 6, 1884 and William Afred Boy also born in Germany (?Charlottenburg) March 9,1883. They immigrated to USA on 1911 or 1912 and lived in New York City and Cleveland, Ohio. Frieda had a baby by an unknown individual born August 2, 1911 in Charlottenburg. The unknown was apparently a German Naval Officer and marriage was forbidden by his family, and he committed suicide. Frieda was below his social status. The baby later came to USA at age 2, was adopted by William Boy, and is Elfrieda Hildegarde Boy. She married my father, Flamen Ball V. |

My Great^6 Uncle was William Eckel was rhe Superintendent of the State House Steeple, Independece Hall, Philadelphia, PA. It is said that he gave the final decision to drill the hole in the Liberty Bell so that they could ring the bell, which in turn cause the famous crack. |
