The HARVEY BALLINGER Family Of Grundy County, Missouri
HARVEY BALLINGER migrated with his family to Grundy County, Missouri, in 1856, from Miami County, Indiana. HARVEY BALLINGER was the 3rd great grandson of HENRY BALLINGER, c 1660, and MARY HARDING, c 1665, of Benninghamshire, England. HARVEY was born in Miami County, Ohio, in 1826, the son of BENJAMIN T. BALLINGER and NANCY CASS, both born in Miami County, Ohio, in 1804. BENJAMIN T. was the son of JONATHIN BALLINGER, b 1773 and MARY IDDINGS, b 1781, both of Guilford County, North Carolina. HARVEY married MARY JANE EVANS, b 1835, the daughter of Rev. JOHN EVANS and Martha Cherry. MARY EVANS' earliest known ancestor, DAVID EVANS Sr., b 1733 in Wales, England, immigrated to America. In New Jersey Before 1753, DAVID EVANS Sr. married Mary Vandeventer, b 1734 in New Jersey. The 6 children of HARVEY and MARY, all born in Grundy County, Missouri, were: NANCY b 1856, married C. C. COCHRAN, bore two children, WILLIAM COCHRAN b 1876, and CLARISSA COCHRAN b 1877. Nancy died in 1879. HARVEY raised the children as C. C. dissappeared. SUSAN b 1858. Nothing is known of her fate. ACHSAH b 1862, married D. E. Smith. No record exists of children. BENJAMIN T. b 1864, married ALICE ALLEN who died 1887, then MARY SOPHIE COOK. Ben and Mary had two daughters, DORA and DORTHA. JOHN WILLIAM b 1873, married Margaret Virginia Wagner. They had MARY, who was stillborn, MABLE ALLIE, and a son GLEN ANDREW. JANE b 1877. Nothing is known of her fate. The Grundy County BALLINGER family surname presence began with HARVY, and ended with his two sons. BENJAMIN T., fathered two daughters, and JOHN WILLIAM, moved to New Mexico circa 1917, Oregon, Oklahoma, and then Kansas City, Missouri in the early 1920's. No BALLINGER surnamed descendant has returned to reside in Grundy County. My grandfather was the 8th gneeration Giddings. The first generation goes back to 1609 and Bedfordshire, England. The MCKEES are from Lewistown, Pennsylvania, Mifflin County. William M.McKee born in Ireland abt. 1740-45. Probably in Cookstown, Tyrone, N. Ireland. William came to the U.S. married Sarah Jane Taylor in Franklin, Pa. and had seven (7) children. William served in the Revolutionary War in 1782, and the war of 1812. He died abt. 1812/13. Hugh McKee was the 6th child and my great-great grandfather b. 1799,d.1870. Hugh had nine (9) children. George my great grandfather was the 9th child b.1827,d.1900. George married Elizabeth Carney 1856 and had twelve children(12). Harry was the 10th child and my grandfather. Harry married Alvernia Rachel Shahen, 1902 and had two children, one dying at a young age the other my father John Edwin McKee. Born 1902,Pa., died 1989 Kimberling City, Mo.
