The Ates Family of Bakersfield, California
My grandparents were Doc and Oma Campbell. They had ten children. Doc died in March 1970. Oma was born January 1903 and died in 1990. My husband is Thomas E. Ates, Jr. His parents are Thomas Earl Ates, Sr and Lilly Mae Hopper. His grandparents on his mother's side were James and Jenny Hopper, which both died in Beebe, Arkansas. James died 1977 and Jenny died 1981. Together they had six children. James Hopper's parents were Thomas and Lavassy Hopper. Lavassy's maiden name was Cox. Jenny Hopper's parents were William and Netty Lundy. Netty's maiden name was Davis. His grandmother on his father's side was Hattie Mae Clark. Hattie's maiden name was Hunter. |

Richard and Ann Dannan (or Danan)(c.1860) Also in the Royal Navy. The Dannan family originated in Cornwall,U.K. (Robert and Hester Dannan (1680)moved to Devizes in the 1700's and to Portsmouth in the 1800's. Common names - Robert, John, William, Richard James, Ester, Mary. Henry Alfred Hopper(25.12.1888) married Minnie Beatrice Dannan (2.6.1892) on 5.5.1914. Russ family. James Russ (1840) walked to London from Wiltshire circa 1865.. He married Sophie Melton 1872.I've traced the Russ family back to Joseph and Elizabeth Russ who married about 1742 and lived in Ramsbury, Wiltshire. McNany's & Akin's - Hopper's & Cooper's
The Akin Family home is located in Fresno and still exists. The Akin's are buried in Easton Cemetery, just north of Fresno. They are from Titusville and Oil City, PA. Charles Hopper is the son of Thomas Hopper. He came to CA as the scout of the Bartelson Bidwell wagon train in 1841. He returned 5 years later with his wife and children. He is from NC. The Cooper Family home is located in Yolo County and is also still standing. It is still in the family. The Cooper's came from KY and MO. |
