DEATH OF AN INDIAN CHIEF.
JOHN R. DICKINS, OF DICKINS' FERRY.
On Monday, John R. Dickins died at his residence at Dickins' Ferry
on Dog River, about twenty-five miles from the city.
John R. Dickins was,and has been,for a score more years familiar to
the eyes of every man, woman and child in and about Mobile.
He was made conspicuous by his eccentric peculiarities which display
themselves in a strong desire to practice the habits and customs of
the Indians even while living in a civilized and intelligent
community. His life was an eventful one, and fraught with many
incidents and adventures of greater magnitude than are met with in
the lives of most men; but little is known,however,of the details
of his life.
He was born in Georgia about 70 years ago. From Georgia he went to
Texas,and it is believed that it was there he was first thrown with
the Indian tribes with whom he afterwards became identified.
He went to the home at which he died several years before the war.
He was a frequent visitor to this city, and always attracted attentio
by his attire,which was the full dress of an Indian, consisting of
buckskin coat with breeches and leggins of the same material,
ornamented with beads and a buckskin cap,set off with feathers.
It has been his habit to vist to Indian Territory where he would
devote several months to visiting the different tribes and looking up
his friends. One peculiarity of these vists was that he would leave
home without the knowledge of his family, who never knew of his
whereabouts until his return. At the time of his death he held the
title of chief of the tribes.

was married to lula french had one son, tom ted jones 1n 1926/ married leola campbell in the early 30's they had four daughters, nancy jerldine 1935,billie jean 1937 ,yvonne cornelia 1939, all in wichita falls. also had joanne in 1942 location unknown. All of the people mentioned above had many children, tom married my mom in nm in 1953 and had the rest of us. He was born in jan. 1906/1907. his parents were obie/obie/abie/ jones anmd nanny young. He had brothers named joe, sam and sisters named bess and adaline. they were from aroung fort worth, texas. Everyone in the family who knows anything has long passed away. Have you heard of anyone listed above?

Description: Looking for parents of Thomas McClain Cooper. His approx date of birth is 1765. We know that he died in 1864 from an article that was done on his granddaughter in 1930 when she was 90 years old.
Last known info we have on him is that he lived in Cumberland Co Va with his wife Rebecca Wilson Cooper before moving sometime in the early 1800's to the Augusta Co area which later became Taylor Co, WV. It's blocked and we are unable to read the rest, but we would love to know who wrote it because thats my GGrandfathers brother and we've never met another living Campbell from this family , My father born 3 yrs after William and Fany were married moved to Chicago in 1915 when he was 12 and died in 1987 thinking he was the last male Campbell in the family and knew of no other Campbell children , I was thought to be the last female Cambell in this family so it's exciting to have found this entry !! If anyone knows how to find this person let them know I'm here please
