Description: JOHN1 GALBREATH/KELBRETH He married ELEANOR JOHNSON. She died 11 Feb 1845 in Edwardsburg, Grenville Co., Ontario.
Notes for JOHN GALBREATH/KELBRETH: The family assumes that John Galbreath/Kilbreth was born either in Scotland or Ireland. He migrated to the north eastern part of the Province of New York, or perhaps the Vermont territory claimed by both New York and New Hampshire.
With advent of the American Rebellion, John Galbreath/Kelbreth/Kilbreth served in Colonel Jessups Corps in Captain William Fraser's Company during the whole of the American Revolution. He settled in Edwardsburgh. (Norman K. Crowder, Early Settlers: A Source Book, p.54, Return of Disbanded Troops and Loyalists settled in Township No. 6 Edwardsburgh, Mustered this 13th. October 1784.)
Jessups Corps, a loyalist provincial "Corps" was raised in 1777 mainly in the area north of Albany, New York by the Jessups: Edward, Ebenezer, and Joseph), wealthy local merchants of the Grand Falls' area of New York State. Jessup 's soldiers came mainly from the area north of Albany, New York, which would include the counties of Charlotte, Tyrone, etc. (R. Garrett, douglas@globetrotter.gc.ca, 1997)
In 1781, Jessup's Corps, the remnants of Peter's Corps (Queen's Loyal Rangers), King's Loyal Rangers, and parts of McAlpine's Corps were merged at St. John's, Quebec into a new unit under the command of Jessup and named the Loyal Rangers. The Loyal Rangers were disbanded in 1784.
In a ... "Petition To the Honourable Peter ...... Esquire ... administering the government of the province of Upper Canada... order in council... most humbly sheweth that your petitioner ......Your petitioner having served in Colonel Jessups Corps in Captain William Fraser's Company during the whole of the last American Rebellion prays you may be pleased to grant his children two hundred acres of land for each of them, thus they be on a footing with other loyalist children, who have already received the same...dated New Johntown, 12th. May 1797... John Galbreath...his mark..." Upper Canada Land Petition (RG1L3), John Galbreath, Edwardsburgh, 1797, Vol. 203, G3/57, Reel C-2028, R. Collins, 02/01/97.,
Children listed in William D. Reid's Loyalists In Ontario; The Sons And Daughters Of The American Loyalists Of Upper Canada, p. 121:-
01. Nancy m. Aaron Rose, Edwardsburgh, O.C. 14 June1797 & 18 June 1799, N.B. It is interesting to note that Aaron Rose was born on 15 November 1775 in Manchester, Bennington Co., Vermont territory. (Gordon A. Hamilton, gah4@psu.edu, 1997) Perhaps coincidence, the Helen & John Anderson descendants believed that John Galbreath/Kilbreth came from Vermont. 02. Mary m. John Galer, Augusta , O.C. 15 March 1803; 03. Margaret m. Levi Bigelow, Edwardsburgh, O.C. 16 June 1807; 04. Jane m. Hezekiah Price (Pierce), Edwardsburgh, O.C. 20 Feb. 1810; 05. Eleanor m. (7) That my said husband kept up a correspondence with his said father and brother, addressing his letters to them in care of one Mr. James Keith, a merchant of the said city of Aberdeen, and that he sent his father some money the year he was discharged from said Regiment.

The Declaration being read in my presence to the said Helen Anderson who seemed perfectly to understand the same and made her mark in my presence.

Description: My great-great grandfather, Michael Gallagher, migrated to America from County Roscommon in Ireland about 1850. I have a copy of his obituary which states he was born on November 22, 1818 in County Roscommon in Ireland (no town or parish given). He died in Saratoga Township, Winona County, Minnesota on Feb. 5, 1892. I have a copy of his death certificate that gives his father's name as Neil Gallagher.
Michael Gallagher married Catherine (Kate) Leonard. I had assumed that Kate Leonard Gallagher was also born in Ireland because the 1870 Winona County, Minnesota, census indicates that her place of birth was Ireland, but I read on my great-grandfather's death certificate that his mother, Kate LEONARD GALLAGHER, was born in Troy, Winona County, MN. I don't know which is her actual place of birth. I don't know where Kate and Michael met or where they were married.
I know that Michael and Kate Leonard Gallagher and their two oldest children, Ann and Joseph Patrick (My great-grandfather), moved from Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, PA to Winona County, MN in 1857. Ann and Joseph Patrick Gallagher were born in PA. Michael and Catherine Gallagher had at least six more children who were born in MN. Their names were John, George, Edward, Mary, Ellen, and William. Gallagher. The whole family is listed in the 1870 Winona Co., MN Census.
My great-grandfather, Joseph Patrick (J.P.)GALLAGHER was an infant when his family moved from Pittsburgh to Winona Co., MN in 1857. He lived there until 1878, when, at the age of twenty-two years, he migrated to what is now the state of South Dakota. On May 10, 1878, he entered homestead and timber-culture claims in Humboldt township, Minnehaha County, Dakota Territory.
I would like to communicate with anyone who thinks that they may be related to this GALLAGHER family.

Description: I trace my direct maternal line back to Ireland in the mid-1800s. My great-great grandmother, Mary Diana FLYNN, married Patrick KELLY ca 1850. According to Mary Diana's obituary, she was born in 1823 in County Galway in Ireland. Patrick was born ca 1825 or 1826. They migrated to the United States before 1859. Patrick bought land in Fillmore County in Minnesota in the United States in 1859. My Great-grandmother, Margaret KELLY, was their daughter. She was born on a farm near Chatfield in Fillmore County, Minnesota in 1861.
Patrick and Mary Diana Flynn Kelly's children were: Margaret, Anna, Michael, Peter, Thomas, Mary and Ed KELLY.
Patrick KELLY died in 1893 in Portland, Oregon. Mary Diana FLYNN KELLY died Dec. 27, 1903 in Deer Park, Washington. I don't know the names of the parents of Patrick KELLY and Mary Diana (FLYNN) KELLY. As a result, I don't know any maiden names of my maternal ancestors earlier than the FLYNN surname, but presumably they lived in Ireland. My Great-grandmother, Margaret KELLY, married Joseph Patrick (J. P.) GALLAGHER, from Winona Co., MN on July 27, 1885, in Montrose, McCook Co., SD.
Joseph Patrick and Margaret KELLY GALLAGHER lived in the Humboldt, Minnehaha Co., SD area the rest of their lives. They had two children. Their son, George Gallagher, was born on May 13, 1886. Their daughter, Mary Ann (Mamie) who was my grandmother, was born on Nov. 3, 1887.
My Kelly and Flynn ancestors lived in Fillmore Co., MN before moving to Minnehaha County and McCook County, SD in the late 1800s. They farmed near the towns of Humboldt and Montrose in SD. I would like to communicate with anyone who believes that they may be related to the Kellys, Flynns or Gallaghers.

John Galbreath

01. 02. Mary m.
