He was born Oct.12,1843 in Toronto Canada and came to Sierra Valley in the 1860's. Later travels in time brought me to the Pinwills of Ermington, Devonshire, including The Reverend Edmund Pinwill and his seven highly talented daughters who set up their own carving business. Their ancesters included the Rashleighs of Menabilly, Cornwall including Jonathan Rashleigh of Civil War fame, made famous by Daphne Du Maurier's novel The King's General. My paternal grandmother was an Adams. She descends from Matthew Atkinson who was probably also from England. James Atkinson and Mariah Butler were married in Morgan County, Georgia on October 27, 1825. James was from Greene County - not sure about Mariah. They had a daughter, Mariah L. Atkinson who married Benjamin Franklin Adams in Morgan County on December 14, 1866. She died around 1884. |
