The Family of Edward Stratemeyer, founder of the Stratemeyer Literary Syndicate
Edward Stratemeyer (1862-1930) was an author and editor of stories for young people. Many of his own writings appeared under pseudonyms. In 1905 he founded the Stratemeyer Syndicate as a group to produce juvenile books in series for publishers. He would hire writers to fill out stories based on limited outlines. After editing, the stories would be submitted to one of several publishers. The Syndicate produced the Bobbsey Twins, Tom Swift, the Hardy Boys, and Nancy Drew. |
