The original Arnold immigrants were German-Baptists who migrated first to MD and then to York, PA and then on to Montgomery Co. OH from Germany in the 1700s. My Arnold family migrated to Marion, IN in 1868 from Montgomery Cty. OH. Samuel M. Arnold came with three sons, Levi, my gr-grandfather, Annias and Solomon and his partner George W. Gunder to open a merchantile business. Many of the Arnolds (22, not all related) are buried in the IOOF Cemetery in Marion, the sight of the original Friends Church in Marion. Carl Bailey, my grandfather, was a veteran of the Spanish-American War going to both Cuba and the Philippines. He was in the 160th Indiana Volunteer Regiment Co. Charles Harper was born about 1770. He was a full-blooded Mississippi Choctaw Indian. He married Polly Cheatham; they lived in Montgomery County, Kentucky and had about 12 children, including my 3-G grandfather, Baldwin Harper. Charles Harper was a Baptist preacher. The family moved to Spencer County, Indiana in 1822 and then to Sangamon County, Illinois in 1828. This area later became Logan County. Baldwin Harper married (1) Martha (Patsy) Burns and (2) Permelia Cartmell. James Cormican was born about 1794 in New York. His parents were probably John Cormican of Ireland and Susannah Stroup of Germany. He married Margaret Henry; they lived in Butler County, Ohio and had at least 8 children, including my great-great grandfather John Cormican. John Cormican married Amy Gerard; they lived in Hamilton County, Ohio. |
