BALCH FAMILY from ENGLAND to CANADA
The family of James Balch (b.1845) came to Canada by ship in 1909 - that is, his wife Sarah and children came without him to the new world. James' son, also James (b. 1879) met and married his wife Alice Margaret Scattergood in Canada, and that is the beginning of the London, Ontario Balch family. James (b.1879) had a brother George who settled in Toronto and had family, some of whom now live in British Columbia, and a sister Mildred (Stone) settled in the Vancouver, BC area and also had family. One brother of James (b.1879), namely John William Balch, b. Sept. 5, 1881 in Caterham, Surrey, who married Queenie QUELCH, did not come to Canada. He became a butcher, and died before 1965. Nothing is known of this family except that there was a son Morris born about 1910 in England. This is our lost branch. James (b.1845) came from a large family,(Mary Anne, Patience, Jane, Emily, Linford George, Clara, and Arthur) all of whom were born in Caterham, Surrey. Linford Balch, a brother of James b.1853 has an extensive family still in England. The Balch family tended to be tailors, and later also butchers (introduced by the Bryant family). The oldest Balch we can safely claim heir to was James Balch b. 1815 and baptised in St. Martin's in the Field (London, England). He became a tailor in Downing Street and moved to Caterham in 1834. There he married Betsy Bryant, daughter of Henry Bryant and Patience Roffey (or Roffe). |

Bak and Gray families from Pennsylvania. The Baks are from the Pittsburgh area and the Grays are from the Philadelphia and Bucks County areas. Michael Bak (born 8/23/1907) is the son of Paul Buck (Bak) and Anna Minarchick. Both parents were born in Czechoslovakia in the 1870's. He was married to Elizabeth Barbara (Bertha) Sajko (born 5/2/1915). Her parents, Michael Sajko (Siko) and Anna Pirosko, were born in Slovensko (Czechoslovakia), he in 1878 and she in 1882. Archibald Ritchie Gray (born 8/30/1918) is the son of Archibald Gray and Maude Bella Kane (or DeKane), both born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was married to Dorothy Lillian McGinty (born 8/16/1919). Her parents, Charles James McGinty and Dorothy Fisher, were both born in Philadelphia (he in 1890 and she in 1894). Dorothy Fisher's mother, Emma Ruth Hall, was born in Canada -- her parents were born in England. |

Bob and Debbie's Family Tree
Martin Mellinger returned to Liditz, PA in 1863 after his medical discharge from the Army in Ohio. By 1865 Martin is in Stephenson Co, Illinois and marries Anna Sellers, also of PA. They have three daughter together, Mary, Sarah, and Emma Elizabeth. Emma and Sarah list Princeton Indiana as their place of birth. Sometime after Emma's birth in 1873, Martin and Anna divorced. DANIEL BAILEY (1799-1864) born in New York State, had two sons: His oldest son, EPHRAIM R. BAILEY, (1830-1894) never married and moved to Tama Co, Iowa in 1860 to farm. CHARLES S. BAILEY, (1843-1916) was born in St. Lawrence County, Edwards, New York on 19 July 1843. The Bailey family moved to Tama Co, Iowa around 1856 and settled in the town of Toledo. Charles enlisted into the 10th Iowa Infantry in 1861 and was discharged in 1865. Charles married Margaret E. Fisher (1844-1917) in Toledo, Iowa. They had two children, LEONA A. BAILEY (1867-1922) and FRED A BAILEY, (1870-1953). The family moved to Buffalo Co, Shelton, NE in 1873 to continue farming. FRED BAILEY married MAY E. CALKINS (1868-1898) and moved to Omaha, NE. LEONA BAILEY married NATANIAL A. SMITH (1863-1903), and moved to Dawes Co, Crawford, NE EPHRAIM stayed in Tama Co until the 1890's and died in Shelton NE in 1894. DANIEL BAILEY died in 1864 in Toledo, Iowa at the age of 64 years. DANIEL BAILEY from New York State, (1820 - 1850). He spent at least 20 years in the town of Edwards, N.Y. and remarried a second time around 1840. DANIEL could have had another son and daughter.
