Wheatons of Cohocton, NY Geneology
Descendents of Samuel Wheaton (1772-1798) and Charity Wyckoff (1767-1839). Family lore tells Samuel died before the birth of his second son, Samuel in 1798. Jacob the first born was born in December 1796. This all happened in Raritan, NJ (we think). Sometime around 1815, Charity brought the boys to NY and started first at Keuka Lake. She and Samuel (her son) moved to Cohocton, (then called Prattsburgh)and built a mini-empire on Lent Hill. Samuel first married Amelia Fenton and had 4 children. After her death in 1835, he married Sarah Stewart (Stuart)in June 1836 after a one day courtship and they had 11 more children. \r\n\r\nDescendents of Samuel & Charity Wyckoff Wheaton |
