Elijah Armstrong Sr. of North Carolina was born September 1793 in Iredell Co. area. Elijah married Margaret Peggy Higgins, daughter of John and Mary Higgins of Fauguier Co., Virginia, in Wilson Co., Tennessee. Elijah Armstrong Jr. son of Elijah and Peggy, was born in 1835 in Daviess Co., Missouri and was married to Charity Womack. Elijah and Charity had 4 children, John Wesley, William A., Margaret and Nancy. Elijah Jr. was in the Texas Rangers probably as a scout, he enlisted Oct. 1861 in Jack Co., Texas. He is suppose to have been half Cherokee Indian, his brother Barton W. was listed on a Cherokee application that stated that his father Elijah Armstrong Sr. was Cherokee Indian from North Carolina. THOMAS family, South Carolina and possibly North Carolina. Stephen Thomas m. Susannah Benton, b. abt. 1763, Darlington, SC. Susannah was the daughter of Joseph Lewis Benton and Leucretia Cove (adopted daughter of John Cove of Granville County, NC.) Stephen and Susannah had 2 sons, John and James. John went northwest and James, b. 1790, m. Elizabeth Steele, b. abt. 1800. James and Elizabeth had 9 children, James Madison Thomas and siblings. James and Elizabeth are buried at Bethel Baptist Church cemetery in Olanta, SC. Joseph and Leucretia Benton came to the Darlington District, South Carolina from North Carolina, following Joseph's brother, Col. Lemuel Benton. The IGI at Family History Center shows that, although Susannah and several siblings were born in Dalington, the rest following 1765 were born in Effingham, Marion County, SC. Maps showing changes in counties indicate that parts of Marion County later on became parts of several other counties. I believe that Effingham is now in Florence County. A copy of a letter which James Madison Thomas wrote to one of his grandchildren states that he (James Madison) was born in Sparrow Swamp in 1825. He married a Lena Parker her parents were Bryant Lee Parker b.November 13,1853 d. Febuary 09,1935 her mother Elizabeth (lizzie) Gardner b. April 01,1865 d. November 20,1944. Norman Anderson said to moved to Anderson Co. South Carolina. He was a Postman for this area. Paul Anderson went to Long Beach, California. To a place called Bear Mountain married a Ruth. John Itley STEELE married a Susan or a Sara. Newell Vernon STEELE b. Febuary 02,1904 in Florence co. Pamlico S.C. d. 1942. Married Stella Louise Sturgill b.September 10,1906 died 1993 m.December 29,1930 child Barbara Anne Steele b. November 01,1931 still living. |

Atkinson family From Harrison, Morgan, and Perry county Ohio\r\n\r\nJames Atkison, is the father of Samuel James Atkinson, of Morgan and later Morgan County. James, was married to Sarah Phillis, in Morgan county, 1863.\r\n\r\nAyers family connection is through Gladys Ayers, the daughter of David Ayers and Jane Townsend. David is the son of Isaac and Ann Hope Ayers, of southern Ohio. Isaac was also married to Samantha Anderson in 1861, in Vinton county, Ohio.\r\n\r\nJane Townsend is the daughter of Martin Townsend and Louisa Graham, from Meigs and Athens county area.\r\nMost of my Atkinson and Clark research centers around Southern Ohio, in Harrison, Perry, Morgan, Athens, and Franklin counties. \r\n\r\nSeveral Clark Cousins have shared their research, for which I thank them. John Clark moved from Maryland to Pennslyvania, reaching Perry County, about 1820.\r\n\r\nMy Mansfield, Oyler and Stevens research has been centered in northern Ohio. The Oylers were originally from North Carolina, before moving to the midwest.
