Armstrong was a famous border family in Scotland, which chiefly inhabited an area known as Liddesdale. The Armstrongs were the most feared and dangerous clan on the whole borders area and at its height, in the 1500s, could put three thousand men in the saddle. After the death of the tenth chief in 1610 the Armstrongs scattered.My branch of the clan tree starts around 1643, with the earliest known surviving baptisms and marriages recorded in the small parrish of St. Ninians, Stirling County, Scotland. From there we go to Manchester, England and than to the States in 1906. I have traced the family back to 1515, Ololus Custer, Kaldenkirchen, Germany. The Custer family apparently starts there. No one has come up with a Custer ancester older than that. John and Susannah Custer descendants. They were the first Mercer County (Custer) settlers. John and Susannah's son Peter. Peter had a son named Joseph. Joseph had a son named James S. James S. had a son named Albert. Albert had a son named Elba. Elba had a son named Rolland. And I am Rolland's daughter.
