The Allen, Cooke, Sargent, Towater Families NC, TN, PA, AR
Bouton, MacIntyre, Decker, Schermerhorn, Newlan, Hussey, Dunn, Lane, Newlan, Hussey, and Lane. 'the Allen ancestors came from Holland sometime in the early 1700's to Virginia.' James Allen, son of Joseph Allen, migrated to Maury Ct about 1805. James Madison Allen, grandson of James Allen, was born in Maury Ct TN abt. 1833. His mother was Avarilla Allen. He resided in Maury Ct with his mother, Avarilla Allen, and grandmother, Judith (Morgan) Allen until he married Susannah Cooke Sargent in 1858. Their death is documented in Van Buren Ct, Ar in 1909 and 1910. She was the daughter of Dempsey and Charlotte Cooke Sargent of Maury Ct TN. The Sargent family migrated from PA to NC and TN. The Cooke family is Scottish and settled in MD, VA, SC, and TN. Both families resided in the 14th Civil District of Maury Ct TN which is west of Columbia, TN. Today the community is known as Sawdust Valley and is near Williamsport. The Sargent Cemetery is located on Morel Road in the Sawdust community. Thomas Johnson married Virgina Cooke in 1850. Today, the property is know as the Leonard Johnson place. James Madison Allen, age 15, first appears in the 1850 census as a farmer. His grandmother, age 62, J. J. Later migrated to Wisconsin area then some of the family returned to the Northeast U.S. as well as mid-west. \r\n\r\nMy Tinkham line is descended from Mayflower passengers Peter Brown, Francis Cooke, John Howland, and John Tilley. Bennett/Shields. Opal Wanda Shields(b.7Dec1915) married Guy Bennett(m 24Sept.1916). I\m looking for Opal, who changed her name to Wanda(Bennett),Shields family. Her father was Henry Clinton Shields and Mother was Elsie Fidelia Clements. They were located in Ohio County Ky. \r\n\r\nLaster. They are said to be from North and South Carolina. We are at this time trying to connect to our Cherokee history. Permela Cook may be the daughter of Caroline Bell and Ambrose Cook. I am not sure of the spelling but did find it spelled this way. Permela Cook or Pamela or Permelia Cook/Cooke, married William Laster on either Nov31, 1846 or Oct.31,1846. |
