Origin of ord, Meaning of ord
Origin: Mayo Jordans are descended from Jordan De Courcy who came to Ireland in 1168 (69) with other Norman English; they were known as "Jordan De Exeter" because of their home in England. The family took "Jordan" as part of their name following a Crusader battle in the Holy Land by the river of the same name

Origin of ord, Meaning of ord
Origin: The surname Borden seems to have been originally taken by residents of a village (of the same name) in Kent County, England.
According to J.K. Wallenberg's "The Place Names of Kent," BORDEN is from "bardenn," (Old English), and means "Boar Pasture," or "Field where wild boars graze." The OE "denn" is a variant of "dene" or "denu," which are both OE for "valley." Therefore, "Boar Valley" is also an acceptable definition, and sounds better in Modern English. As the village of Borden is situated "high on rising ground," the namesake "denn" or pasture land would likely be a valley.
