The Beatys and Littles of Ireland and India
BEATY I am researching the BEATY family, originally from Ireland. From family folklore Francis BEATY was born in Tullamore, Ireland in 1757 . Francis and his wife Catherine gave birth to three sons, John, Francis and Henry, probably in Stoke Damerel, Devon, while he served in the Royal Navy. In 1820 Francis and 1821 Henry, joined the Honourable East India Company Army as Cadets in Bengal, India. The elder son of Francis, named Francis Henry BEATY, and his wife Caroline Ophelia (n?e Sheels), had fifteen children all born in India. Five of the sons served in the Indian Police. The Beaty family finally left India in 1948. The cities in India and Pakistan that feature in the family history are Lahore, Jhansie, Karachi, Landour, Mussoorie, Quetta, Rawlpindi and Simla. LITTLE/LYTTLE I am also researching the LITTLE/LYTTLE family from Northern Ireland. In 1839 Andrew LITTLE was born in the Parish of Montiaghs, Lurgan, County Armagh, Northern Ireland, to Thomas and Mary (n?e Wilson) LITTLE. In 1858 he joined the 27th Inniskilling Regiment and sailed to India. He remained in India and retired from the army in 1894. He died in Dehra Dun, India in 1926. He had five children Mary Anne, Thomas Wilson, William John (my grandfather) Edward and Andrew. The surname spelling changed to LYTTLE with the children. The cities in India/Pakistan that feature in the family history are Dehra Dun, Jhansie, Karachi,Lahore, Meerut, North West Province,Peshawar and Simla. He ran away from home and was able to pass as white; He joined the Merchant Marine and lived in Brazil with a Family named Jofar. After he returned to America and rejoined his family he told them that Davis was a Slave name and his free name was Jofar. He would never use that name again he was not a slave to any Man, His father did not like this and there were many family arguments about it. Samuel Jofar married Ella Pierman my Grandmother she was Born 1884 in Lynchburg, Virginia the Jofar & Davis family arrived in Phoenix, Arizona about 1915 Just before the Birth of my Mother Wyona Jofar-Beasley. Samuel Jofar Became one of the 1st Black Doctor's in the state of Arizona He was a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine His Office was located near 11th Street & Washington in Phoenix, Arizona He was also a Barber And I still can remember my 1st hair cut as a child. Richard & Mary Davis are buried at Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona Samuel & Ella Jofar are buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona The Children of Samuel & Ella Jofar are: Wyona L. Baxters Of Allen County Ohio With Pennsylavnia &New Jersey
Daniel BAXTER came into USA in or around 1778. He was born In Ireland or Scotland Circa 1758. He married Sarah CARY in Menham, Morris,New Jersey in 1780. Was bound over to the Govenor in 1778 with a John BAXTER (possibly a brother). After Sarah CARYs father died, the will was probated in 1799, they moved to Washington County Pennsylvania. The following is a list of there children. John, Samuel, Esther, Rebecca, Nancy, Pacey most were born in New Jersey, also Daniel, and James W. who were born in the Washington County Pennsylvaia area. Later the boys migrated to Knox County Ohio. John settled in Knox County while Samuel moved on to Ross County Ohio and then to Allen County Ohio. The Roland Curtin Family of Centre County Pennsylvania
Roland Curtin was born 1764 in County Clare, Ireland. He arrived in Philadelphia, Pa in 1793. He first settled in Philipsburg, Pa. and in 1799 he moved to Bellefonte, where he became a shop-keeper and later, sheriff of Centre County. In 1800 Roland married Margery Gregg. She was the daughter of John Gregg and Elizabeth. They had 7 children. Margery died in 1813 in Bellefonte, and in 1814 Roland married Margery?s first cousin, Jane Gregg. Jane was the daughter of Andrew Gregg and Martha Potter. They had 7 children, their first son was Andrew Gregg Curtin, known as The great war-governor of Pennsylvania, In 1810, Curtin and landowner Moses Boggs founded the Eagle Iron Works. The next year, Curtin purchased nearly 10,000 acres of land, all of which was subsequently cleared, most of it for the hardwood necessary to make the charcoal that fueled the iron furnaces. The Curtin family continued to operate the Eagle Iron Works until an unfortunate blaze in 1921 marked its end, one of the last functioning charcoal cold blast furnace in the United States.
