He also had a Sister Bassie Davis She is my Great Grand Aunt Richard & Mary - they called her Bambi had only one child my Grand Father Samuel Davis aka (Samuel Jofar) Born 1883,in Richmond, Virginia. He ran away from home and was able to pass as white; He joined the Merchant Marine and lived in Brazil with a Family named Jofar. After he returned to America and rejoined his family he told them that Davis was a Slave name and his free name was Jofar. He would never use that name again he was not a slave to any Man, His father did not like this and there were many family arguments about it. Samuel Jofar married Ella Pierman my Grandmother she was Born 1884 in Lynchburg, Virginia the Jofar & Davis family arrived in Phoenix, Arizona about 1915 Just before the Birth of my Mother Wyona Jofar-Beasley. Samuel Jofar Became one of the 1st Black Doctor's in the state of Arizona He was a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine His Office was located near 11th Street & Washington in Phoenix, Arizona He was also a Barber And I still can remember my 1st hair cut as a child. Richard & Mary Davis are buried at Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona Samuel & Ella Jofar are buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona The Children of Samuel & Ella Jofar are: Wyona L. Charles served with the Royal Artillary during WWI. Charles' parents were John Henry and Margaret Brown. Bertha's parents, John Thomas ALDRED & Flora PATRICK, were from the Sheet/Horndean/Catherington area of Hampshire. My maternal g-g-grandfather, Jesse SARGEANT emigrated from England to Ontario in 1850 & married Elizabeth BARNES. Their daughter, Hanna M. SARGEANT married Thomas COLEMAN in 1886. BUSH-Texas SMITH-Oklahoma Missouri BANKS-Oklahoma Missouri ANDERS-Missouri Ruben L. BATES, my g-grandfather, is thought to have died in Wilson, OK in the early to mid-1930's. He was married to Elizabeth KING and migrated to OK from ARK. There were at least 2 sons, Isreal Clayton BATES(b8/3/1888 in ARK, d3/18/1980 in Lubbock, TX), and Albert BATES(bd unknown in ARK, d unknown in Wilson, OK). Albert BATES was a Baptist preacher. my g-g-grandfather, ? SMITHERMAN is thought to have died in 1887 after being stabbed during a water rights dispute. He married Mattie Victoria COLEMAN(b10/6/1867 in TX, d7/4/1958 in Lubbock, TX). They had 1 son, Barnes Carroll SMITHERMAN(b11/26/1886 in TX, d2/7/1961 in Lubbock, TX). Johann (John) married Mary Elisabeth Edel and opened a hat shop on Chestnut Street. my G-G-G Grandparents? (Johann Baecker / John Baker and Mary Elisabeth Edel) final resting places to Zim?s Lutheran Church in Dushore. Their son (Frank Ignatius Baker) married Mary Anna Obert in Dushore in 1873, and named their first born son John Samuel Baker (My G-Grandfather). John Samuel Baker married Bernice Coleman in Middleton, in 1906. They named their first born son John Obert Baker (My Grandfather) in honor of his grandmother?s maiden name. |
