Robert ROWE was born on 5/7/1839 in Brandon, Rankin Co., MS. His parents were Ambrose L. & Barbara HARPER Rowe, probably from NY (Barbara may have come from Ireland). Robert moved from MS to LA, 1st Opelousas, then Washington, a small town near Opelousas, finally, New Orleans. He entered the Confederacy & was captured as a prisoner of war, & held until the end of the year at Point Lookout, MD. He was rumored to have been a war correspondent for the OPELOUSAS COURIER.\r\n\r\nAllecia Lucretia DESSESSARTS was born circa 1850, probably in Washington, LA. Little is known of her. She & Robert Rowe had at least 12 children after he returned from the war, though they may never have formally married. She is listed on various US census as a mulatto; Robert Rowe was white. \r\n\r\nRobert & Allecia's (or Alice) children were: Emily Virginia 'Pinky' (born circa 1867 Robert Adam, called Adam or 'Addy' (born 7/5/1873 William Eruncet (born 9/24/1870, died in childhood Ambrose Leonard, called Leonard or 'Lenny' (born late 3/1/1876 Clara, also called Carrie (my g-grandmother, born 11/1880 Pearl (born 10/1885 Prisca, called Pete or Howard born 1/1887 Edna (born 2/1893 Ternet (born ??, died in infancy Beaulah (born ??, died at 8 yrs old & 2 other males. \rLinda J Alexander |
