Nelson was first married to Lelia Viola Davis and she died in 1914 They eventually ended up in Aspen Pitkin Co Colorado, They are both buried in the Red Butte Cemetery there.

He married Harriet Palmer (1840-?), also of NY and parents born in NY. Their son, Arthur DeVere Carpenter (1865-1958) was my grandfather. He married Grace Murdock. The list of surnames I am posting are all connected with my Carpenters as Arthur and Grace gave these surnames as their 6 childrens middle names.
