The Bales Family Home Page
My Great Great Great Grandfather was Joseph Bales, born in Virginia around 1786. In 1807, he married Cynitha Oliver, 12 years of age. Her parentage were Francis Oliver and Wilhelminah Scott, of Orange County Virginia. According to the 1810 and 1820 census records they were living in Albemarle, VA. During the 1820's they moved to Todd County, Kentucky. We believe Joseph's father may have been William Bales and his father and mother were Joseph & Sarah Bales who sold their headrights in Caroline County VA. in 1737. We know that a William Bales and Family who may or may not be related lived in both Albemarle and Todd county during this same period. We believe this line of Bales's goes back to Thomas Bales who landed in Elizabeth Citie County, VA. in 1636 (age 18). Thomas married and had one known daughter and four sons, Thomas Jr., Humphrey, John and William. Thomas Sr. died in this county in 1697. Thomas Jr. and William lived on their father's land, on Black Hill Ridge as late as 1718. Humphrey died in 1717 leaving a wife and two sons. John had moved on. |
