Both or Bothena, a dwelling, a baronial residence; and Neth or Neoth-ea, the stream that descends or is lower then something else in the neighbourhood; a derivation which is perfectly applicable to the site of the ancient castle, and to the present residence of the noble family of Arbuthnott.
