Origin of allen, Meaning of allen
Origin: GALLEN[Gail-len] surname for my family is 5965 of 6000 anient Irish surnames, originally coming out of Co. Meath[3 centuries prior to Christ on Earth. to Co. Leix, to Co(s). Mayo and Slig; and, finally stopping between Co(s). Donegal and Tyrone. The tribe of Gallenga is thought to be the origin of the name; but, it could have derived from an area of that name, too. Though, some may disagree - it is a rare name and very pld; with many numerious variations in spelling and origins. My thoughts only - those that are defeated and oppressed; rarely are able to retain their own files and records; as the winner destroys all of those and rewrites the conquered peoples records and History to their own liking and glorification. Glory is never written down in truth; and, the exception is the glory of Our Lord, JESUS CHRIST. There is a legend of a Gallen being changed into a swan by Mother Erin(pre-Druid, goddess[high]; and also that of Gallen of the Dishonored Spear.

Origin of allen, Meaning of allen
Origin: Probably from the Alan tribal name. The Alans (Alani) originated in what is now Ossetia. They were driven west into the Roman Empire by the Huns. They fought the Huns at the battle of Chalon with the Goths and the Romans and then were more or less disbanded. Some of the Alan tribe was relocated by the Romans to Northern Germany/Denmark and about 600 AD they migrated to Britain. It is possible that the name Allemagne (German) came from the name Alling. Our family convertedt to the name Allen about 1700. The Allings trace their heritage in america to New Haven, Conn where the little village of Allington can be found. While in England they lived in Hemstead. The first recorded Alling here was Roger Alling and George Allen wrote the genealogy of the Allings circa 1900.
