Descendants of Nathaniel Harriman (Herriman) Ontario, Canada
Nathaniel Harriman was either born in Hadley, MA or Norwich, CT in 1758. He married Bethania Snow in Hardwick, MA in 1781 and they had 9 children. We believe him to be the son of Nathaniel Harriman b. Oct 9, 1723,the brother of Jonathan b. 1753, the grandson of Matthew Harriman born August 16, 1652 and the great grandson of Leonard Harriman. Nathaniel received a land grant of 200 acres near the town of Cobourg, Hamilton Township, Northumberland County, Ontario (then called Hamilton in Upper Canada) on September 1, 1797. He may have been referred to as a Simcoe Loyalist. We have recently added information on his brother, Jonathan who moved from Vermont to Sandy Creek, NY. Diadamia was the youngest daughter of Nathaniel and Bethania. She was reported to be stolen from the lake shore near Cobourg, Ontario by Mississauga Indians on June 7, 1797 just 4 weeks after the family arrived from Rupert, Vermont. A poem written by Bethania entitled The Lost Child was meant to tell her parents, Jesse and Mary Snow,(nee Eaton)in Hardwick, MA, about the loss of Diadamia. Nathaniel, his second son, is the direct line ascendant to the author. He was a well respected person and served in the Provincial Dragoons during the war of 1812 -1815. His younger brother, Luther, was also in the Canadian Militia during that war. Luther then became a physician and was married twice; the first to Sarah White (5 children) (Sarah may have died as a result of childbirth complications) and the second to Abigail Dean. That marriage produced 7 children. Two sons, Weston Leroy and Elbridge also became physicians. After serving on the Union side during the Civil War, as surgeons, they both returned to establish practices in Lindsay, Ontario. Elbridge then moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota some time after 1879. The Harriman History (Feudalism to Freedom)by Lois Ware Thurston, comments on the Harriman Name. The name Harriman was not uncommon in England, suggesting there was no one Harriman family, but several unrelated families with the same name. Some of the earliest Harriman records were found in Uldale and it was only in these records that another Harriman with the Christian name Leonard was found. Uldale is in Cumberland County (the Lake District) in Northern England near the Scottish border (and recent center of the outbreak of foot and mouth disease) There are variant spellings of Harriman, Herriman, Harryman, Herryman, as in those days people often spelt a name the way it sounded. Charles W. Bardsley, author of ?A Dictionary of English and Welsh Surnames?, claims the name Harryman is an occupational name meaning servant of Henry which when spoken sounds like Harry?. When the Harriman?s left Uldale it was likely to find a better way of life, rather than religious freedom. Leonard and John Harriman found themselves caught up in the Great Migration of the 1630's. and arrived with Reverend E Rogers in New England in 1638. They set out from Rawley, Yorkshire, England. Du-Breuil-Villars,Isyr,Bru,Fdez.Mojadin,Ralderis,Bardina
my ancestors, on my mothers'side, were from France, maybe the city of Lyon or Deauville. Jacobo DU-BREUIL-VILLARS ISYR(1744-1804) married Ines DE OTERO (d.1816). Their son(1791-1880),same name, married Ana DARNA VIDAL (1824-1862).Then came another Jacobo DU-BREUIL DARNA (B.1844) who married Aracelia JACKSON BRU (1859-1941).One of their children was my grandmother, Carmela DU-BREUIL JACKSON(1883-1954)who married my grandfather Justo FERNANDEZ-MOJARDIN RALDERIS(1885-1940) Carlos JACKSON, maybe from Louisiana or Jacksonville, married Margaret MOORE from Jacksonville,Fl. Parents of Fermin JACKSON MOORE(1750-1862)who married Florencia BRU VIDAL(B.1820) The DU-BREUIL were soldiers and had something to do with New Orleans. Yes the last name of DU-BREUIL is correct. Although many changed it to Dubreuil, because of the civil war in France. Later they migrated, with the family,to Havana,Cuba and all the generations after were borned there. Maybe that is why the last name stayed the same and had no need to change it. The BARDINA came from Aragon, Spain and the LOZANO and GONZALEZ from Oviedo, Asturias, Spain. My son-in-law mothers'name was Margarate BEYTOUT, decease about 1978, married Serge BARBIER,decease about 1993, both from Paris, France. I know an uncle, Gerard BEYTOUT, lives in Paris and in Deauville other times. He might be decease now. He had two daughters, one of them had an accident, with a horse, and died. Genealogy Report: Descendants of Basil Human There were HUMANs in England as early as 1250, the English surname meaning Hugh's man. A group of German/Dutch HUMANs went to South Africa in the early 1700s and founded the town of Humansdorp. There are also HUMANs of Russian, Czech and Scandanavian descent, sometimes spelled HUMANN. The earliest known HUMANs in our line are Basil HUMAN and his wife Isabel. They were having kids in Maryland in the 1760s, spent the 1770s in Caswell Co, NC, and ended up in the Fork District of Madison Co, GA by 1786. Basil died on May 6, 1795 and left a will naming his 6 children; Alexander, Basil, Peggy WELLS, Anna, Susannah and Rutha. Alexander HUMAN (my gggg grandfather) was born 18 Sept 1760 in Maryland. At 17, he enlisted in North Carolina as a private in the American Revolution, and fought in the battles of Guilford Courthouse, Stono Ferry and Briar Creek. He married Elizabeth HAWKS on 4 Sept 1810 in Madison County, Georgia. Alex and Elizabeth had 2 children; Frederick and Isabel Ibby. Ibby never married; Frederick's descendants remained mainly in GA and the Carolinas. Basil HUMAN Jr. went to Tennesse, and married the widow Winifred (GEORGE) GILLIAM on 28 Jan 1797 in Knox County. Basil and Winifred settled in Morgan County, Tennessee, and had 3 children; James G., Anna and Solomon. James G. HUMAN moved to Polk County, Missouri where he founded the town of Humansville. Three other children -- Preston, Housley and Jane -- are thought to be children of Basil Jr. and Jemimah (GALLOWAY) GILLIAM (Winifred's widowed daughter-in-law). Anna HUMAN was the mother of Rev. Jessiah Groves HUMAN, who was born in Madison County, Georgia 10 March 1791. Jessiah was a pastor at the Walnut Fork Baptist Church in Jackson County, GA. He married Sally WOOD on 19 July 1810, and married Sarah GARNER on 13 May 1845. Several of Jessiah's children moved to Texas and settled in Smith County.
