The Beatys and Littles of Ireland and India
BEATY I am researching the BEATY family, originally from Ireland. From family folklore Francis BEATY was born in Tullamore, Ireland in 1757 . Francis and his wife Catherine gave birth to three sons, John, Francis and Henry, probably in Stoke Damerel, Devon, while he served in the Royal Navy. In 1820 Francis and 1821 Henry, joined the Honourable East India Company Army as Cadets in Bengal, India. The elder son of Francis, named Francis Henry BEATY, and his wife Caroline Ophelia (n?e Sheels), had fifteen children all born in India. Five of the sons served in the Indian Police. The Beaty family finally left India in 1948. The cities in India and Pakistan that feature in the family history are Lahore, Jhansie, Karachi, Landour, Mussoorie, Quetta, Rawlpindi and Simla. LITTLE/LYTTLE I am also researching the LITTLE/LYTTLE family from Northern Ireland. In 1839 Andrew LITTLE was born in the Parish of Montiaghs, Lurgan, County Armagh, Northern Ireland, to Thomas and Mary (n?e Wilson) LITTLE. In 1858 he joined the 27th Inniskilling Regiment and sailed to India. He remained in India and retired from the army in 1894. He died in Dehra Dun, India in 1926. He had five children Mary Anne, Thomas Wilson, William John (my grandfather) Edward and Andrew. The surname spelling changed to LYTTLE with the children. The cities in India/Pakistan that feature in the family history are Dehra Dun, Jhansie, Karachi,Lahore, Meerut, North West Province,Peshawar and Simla. He also had a Sister Bassie Davis She is my Great Grand Aunt Richard & Mary - they called her Bambi had only one child my Grand Father Samuel Davis aka (Samuel Jofar) Born 1883,in Richmond, Virginia. He ran away from home and was able to pass as white; He joined the Merchant Marine and lived in Brazil with a Family named Jofar. After he returned to America and rejoined his family he told them that Davis was a Slave name and his free name was Jofar. He would never use that name again he was not a slave to any Man, His father did not like this and there were many family arguments about it. Samuel Jofar married Ella Pierman my Grandmother she was Born 1884 in Lynchburg, Virginia the Jofar & Davis family arrived in Phoenix, Arizona about 1915 Just before the Birth of my Mother Wyona Jofar-Beasley. Samuel Jofar Became one of the 1st Black Doctor's in the state of Arizona He was a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine His Office was located near 11th Street & Washington in Phoenix, Arizona He was also a Barber And I still can remember my 1st hair cut as a child. Richard & Mary Davis are buried at Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona Samuel & Ella Jofar are buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona The Children of Samuel & Ella Jofar are: Wyona L. William Alfred and Sarah Gertrude Beaird
William Alfred Beaird was born July 21, 1880 and I believe in Mallikoff, Texas. William's father was Benjamin Franklin Beaird. His mother's maiden name was Wright. I believe they had 3 boys, William, John, and George as to the oldest I am not sure. Sarah Gertrude Banks (known as Gertrude) was born December 21, 1874 I believe somewhere in Georgia. My grandmother had a maiden sister Mary Elizabeth Banks (known as Lizzy), she also had 2 brothers called Bud and Babe their legal names are not known to me. my grandparents had 8 children. Lillie, William (Rufus), James (Rex), J.B.(my father), Ruby, Cecil, twins Ella (Faye) and Elzie (Bud). Only Bud (Elzie) is still alive and he resides in Corsicana. The Beaird family pretty much stayed in the Corsicana, Blooming Grove area. A number of the Beaird's still reside in the Corsicana area. My grandfather passed away March 27, 1926 in Mallikoff, TX and is also buried in Mallikoff, my grandmother passed away September 20, 1958 in Corsicana, TX and is buried in the Oakwood Cemetary in Corsicana. The address where my grandmother and my Aunt Faye lived was 602 No. 14th St., Corsicana. I was told the Banks part of our family traveled by covered wagon from GA to TX.
