Origin of War, Meaning of War
Origin: This name is a Scottish name drived from two Scottish words, weard and laugh. (law) Weard means 'watch' and Laugh means 'hill'. (We have been called 'Weardlow' many times over the years. A Watch hill was used much as Paul Revere used Old North church. A lookout tower, only it was a hill, many of which are found in Scotland. Wardlaw and Wardlow are very well known in Scottish history and we believe the variance to be an aural misconception and the hearer just wrote down what they thought they heard. You may have been named Wardlaw just because your family lived very near one of these hills.

Origin of War, Meaning of War
Origin: actually there is a little confusion over this i reserched this in school back in england and with a family bible of our history and we were direct decendants of the scottish mac kenzie clan although the confusion sets in as the mackenzies dont reconise us as a sect and the genology charts say we had our own warden clan older than the mackenzies but the funny thing is our history is identical to the mackenzies so im still at a loss as to who we are truly my family says mackenzie(we have the tartan and clan badges) yet we may be warden clan (which has a coat of arms which is on the bible too) although coat of arms were a british thing at the time

Origin: This very uncommon name is of English origin. One explanation of its derivation is that it is a local name, from a township in Northumberland, England. As usual, the writers on surnames contradict one another. The present line seems to have been settled for a while in Scotland, afterward in Ireland, from which latter country it was transplanted to America.

Origin: In a visit to Switzerland in 2003, my wife and I found (very) distant relations living in Switzerland. Origin of War, Meaning of War
Origin: In post-Norman times manors and estates had to be as self-sufficient as possible. In addition to the type of livestock we have today doves and pigeons were kept and bred for food in a dovecot. Similarly, rabbits were bred for food in warrens. The person who looked after the rabbits, i.e. mainly stopped poaching, was the warrener. The dwellings in which the warreners lived became of a very specific design having only a heavily fortified door at ground floor level and all windows on upper floors to offer a measure of protection from violent or starving poachers. Some of these 'warrener houses' are still extant in Lincolnshire, England.
