William Baskin & Margaret Carson of County Donegal, Ireland
William was born about 1804 and Margaret about 1809. Their 1830 marriage is recorded in the Marriage Licence Bonds Index for the diocese of Raphoe. From what I've found, William and Margaret had eight children. The oldest was William, born in 1830; the youngest was Thomas, my great-grandfather, born in 1846. William and Margaret's three older children (William, James, and Isabella) all married in the 1850s; the three younger children (Margaret #2, Robert, and Thomas) emigrated to the U.S. in 1869. Thomas's older brother,Robert, was married to Ellen Walsh at Glenties on 5-26-1868. After the wedding, they emigrated to the U.S.; and, by 1869, according to church records, were living in Eckley, Pennsylvania (near Hazleton). Records from St. James Protestant Episcopal Church in Eckley indicate that Robert, Ellen, Ellen's brother and sister (William and Rebecca), and an aged aunt (Ellen Long) were all living together. Sometime before February 1870, Thomas and his older sister, Margaret, also arrived in Eckley. The 1870 census shows Robert, Ellen, their new baby (Jane), Ellen's aunt (Ellen Long), Ellen's brother and sister (William and Rebecca), and Thomas, all living together. Margaret was probably living in another household as a domestic. The census also shows that Thomas and Rebecca were married in February 1870. Sometime later, William Welsh (Walsh) and Margaret were also married making, we think, three Baskin-Welsh unions. Thomas and Rebecca lived their entire married life in Eckley (a little less than seven years) during which they had three children: William, John (my grandfather), and their only daughter, Margaret Carson. On January 17, 1877, Thomas was injured in the mines when a chunk of coal fell on him stripping his back and cutting his side. At first the injury did not appear to be serious, but infection set in, and he died eight days later. William turned six during the eight days between Thomas's injury and death; my grandfather, John, was about three years and four months; and their little sister, Margaret, was only nine months old. Three months later Margaret was also dead. She is buried with her father in the now abandoned Eckley cemetery. Some time later, Thomas's widow, Rebecca, married her cousin, Matthew Welsh. They had three sons: Matthew Benjamin, Samuel, and Thomas.

BALLMANS FROM GREENVIEW, ILLINOIS TO SASKATCHEWAN CANADA
Charles Michael Ballman roots to Greenview Illinois. His father, Charles August Ballman, married Mary Anne Walsh in Greenview Illinois. Charles August was born in Brooklyn New York in 1862, but who were his parents? Marriage certificate for Charles Michael Ballman shows parents as John Ballman and Mary Flanagan. We know he and his siblings, Maggie and John were orphaned and Charles was young. We believe they were orphaned as a result of the epidemic between 1865 and 1873. Charles August was born in 1863 so he was about 10-12 years old. Larry Looby was know to have raised Charles Michael Ballman in Greenview, Menard/Sangamon County, Illinois USA.
The Walsh and Connolly Roots
Mary Walsh-Connolly of County Fermagh, Ireland, and Peter Connolly also of Ireland. Mary emmigrated to America with two of her brothers (one of which fought in the Civil War,) it is assumed in the 1840's during the infamous Irish potato famine. The couple met and married in either Boston, Queens County, N.Y., or Kings County (Brooklyn,) N.Y. They had seven children between them, most of which lived long enough to start their own families.

The Atkinson McKinnon Home Page
InterneTree: Frederick Stuart Atkinson On the McKinnon, Stuart and Scottish Clans sides, the heritage of Mary Queen of Scott's and the Battle of Culloden Moor and have deeply affected our Scotch family history. Because of religious persecution, battles and wars, our Scotch ancestors ended up hastily leaving Scotland, from The Isle Of Skye, on the Ark and Dove and immigrated to Prince Edward Island. The Atkinson Family Tree ancestors emigrated from Europe (England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Holland, France and Germany, Italy, Switzerland). Others came from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York and Pennsylvania in particular. This is not unusual because the Maritime Provinces were a haven for those loyal to the British Crown and setters were promised substantial land grants from the British government to move to the Maritimes after the expulsion of the Acadians. It is interesting to note that our family also includes Iroquois and/or Micmac Native American women marrying at least two separate ancestors in the US and Nova Scotia. Another ancestor came to Duxbury MA area in the 1621, on the ship that came after the Mayflower called the Fortune. On the Atkinson side, my grandfathers 5th great grandfather Benjamin Allen left New England and fought in the French and Indian War on the British side in Nova Scotia. He was badly wounded losing a leg, was discharged and sent back to New England, settling and starting a family in Kingston, MA. He later went back to Halifax, NS and joined in the ill-fated Eddy Rebellion, and after the Eddy Rebellion failed, he became a wanted man. He eventually joined the Tories in Nova Scotia during the American Revolutionary War. He would have been hung as a traitor if he returned to his home and family in Kingston, MA. We are also descended from Col. Hezekiah King and Col. Benoni Danks who were infamous participants in the Eddy Rebellion. On the Atkinson side we are related to Presidents John Adams, Samuel Adams and William Howard Taft, Poets Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Ralph Waldo Emerson, Betty Ford and singer Ann Murray to name a few.
