Origin: I have come to find that it is originally Germanic, namely of Norse descent. It is possibly from a viking chieftain named Rollo who supposedly had a son named David, who was nicknamed 'the Rooke' because of his dark features, resembling the rook bird. Another meaning of the name is 'Dweller at the sign of the rock', perhaps named for the area the person lived.
