my great grandfather, John/Jonas Heinrich Thomsen came to this country in the early 1900's from Germany. His date of birth is January 24, 1857 in Witbeckfield, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany and he died December 10, 1937 in Winside, NE. He is buried at Valley View Cemetery in rural, Persia, IA. He was married to Margarethe Hansen in 1879 in Germany. She died in Germany in 1901 and is buried there. They had 8 children: Christine, Alvina, Hans, Margaretha, Mathilde, Johanna, Peter and Emma. They all entered this country through Ellis Island and their destination was Fritz Thomsen (brother of John)in Persia, IA. family of Nico Bohm. He was born in Germany July 20, 1882 and was killed in a farming accident by Winside, Nebraska March 29, 1946. He had one sister, Lucie Bohm Nissen that lived in Minnesota. Barcom from Wisconsin and Canada, Meier later changed to Meyer from Wisconsin decended from John Meier in Germany, Johnston from the West Monroe, Oswego County New York area and the Sheboygan County Wisconsin area and Zettel from Wisconsin decended from Sebastian Zettel of Germany, the area of Bavaria. The name Barcom stems from the French name Berthiuame and is spelled by some branches as Barcomb, Barcome and several others. Zettel is sometimes spelled Zettl. Sebastian, Maria and their three children settled in Leroy, Wisconsin. Son Joseph later moved to West Bend, Washington, Wisconsin while daughter Maria, Teresa and son Xaver remained in the Leroy area . Joseph's son Albert settled in Baron, Wisconsin while the rest of his children remained in the West Bend area. Johan Meier settled in Washington County Wisconsin and his children settled primarily in the West Bend and Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. Estevan Tellez Banegas Family of Dona Ana, New Mexico
Don Estevan, born as Estevan Tellez Banegas on August 3, 1865 in Dona Ana, New Mexico. He was born under the Mexican flag, saw New Mexico claimed as a United States Territory after the Mexican American War, and then witnessed New Mexico gain full status as a State in the Union. Don Estevan was the son of Manuel Banegas, one of the early settlers of the Dona Ana Bend Colony located in southern New Mexico. The Dona Ana farming community was settled in 1842 under a formal land grant by the government of Mexico. Manuel Banegas and other settlers were granted ownership rights under the grant and developed the rich farming community by diverting irrigation water from the untamed Rio Bravo, later renamed the Rio Grande River. These ownership rights of the original settlers were later validated under a US Supreme Court ruling that was sought by Don Manuel and other early settlers. Allen Mullican was my Gr.Gr.Gr.Gr. Grandfather. William J. Mullican Sr. the father of Allen his wife Wilmoth Estes. Samuel was my Gr.Gr.Gr. Grandfather,one of many sons of Allen and Susanah Fuston. He moved to Pickens county ALB, where he met and mrried Arrena Pearson, and Adeline McKinney. My Gr.Gr.Grandfather was born there,being the son of Adeline McKinney. John William Mullican. He married Emma L Blallock and my Grandfather William Ancel Mullican was also born there. They moved to Meridian MS. Cirencester. Later travels in time brought me to the Pinwills of Ermington, Devonshire, including The Reverend Edmund Pinwill and his seven highly talented daughters who set up their own carving business. Their ancesters included the Rashleighs of Menabilly, Cornwall including Jonathan Rashleigh of Civil War fame, made famous by Daphne Du Maurier's novel The King's General. James Mayfield Ballard family. He was born in Mississippi or Tennessee in 1849. He was first married to Susan Francis Simms and then to Nancy Lorrinda Lee Young. She was first married to John Bunyon Ivie. James was found married to Nancy in 1900 in Indepence Co., Ark. He may have been an herb doctor. His father left for the war when James was 12 and he was never heard from again. Found on 1870 Butler Co, Missouri census living with Nancy Ballard. Siblings: Caleb, Thomas, Jimima, Betty and George W. Most of the family lives in Mo and Ark , although some migrated to Tx, Cal and Ok. the John Paul Miller family. They came from Dunningen, Germany near Rottweil. They settled in Hokah, Mn. The Rennhack family came from Canada and Germany and live in Wisconsin. William Franklin Brown originated from Ga. He was one of the founders of Brown County, Tx. He was the first district clerk for Brown, Co. He ran mail and fought indians. His descendents live in Brownwood, Tx. The Stamp family comes from Ga. and live in Col, Az and Cal. They are married into the Bacon family...which go back to Grimaldus the Norman from England. |
