Origin: Sulsona appears to have derived from the name Solsona. Solsona is a town in the Catalonia province of Northeastern Spain. Located approximately 70 km NNE from Barcelona, Solsona was mentioned in Roman times and was referred to as 'Celsano.' This information can be found in 'La Encyclopedia Illustrada de Espana.' I located this information at the library at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado.

Origin: There are two common interpratations of the origins of Frazier. 1st that it is of Frissean and means 'strawberry bearer or planter' as noted by the 'fraise' or five petaled strawberry plant, the cinque-foil. 2nd is that Frazier is a derivation of 'de Friselle'. It is Norman French and means 'place of ash trees'. The de Friselle's came to Briton in 1066.

Origin: For many years, researchers of the Summitt line seemed to assume the family was of English heritage related to the normal English meaning of 'highest point, part, or elevation' as with the top of a mountain. This view was shattered with the discovery of the German Lutheran heritage of early Summitts in Eastern Tennessee and Central Indiana. These Tennessee and Indiana Lutheran Summitts turned out to be directly related to a Francis Summit who settled in the Tyron County area of North Carolina in the latter part of the 1700s, later to become Lincoln County and then Catawba County. In modern terms, this area is Northwest of Charlotte in the area of the towns of Hickory, Newton, Lincolnton, and Conover and crossed Southwest to Northeast by Interstate 40. Francis Summit and his family was apparently the only Summit family in this community. They were a part of a growing German community in North Carolina settling west of the Catawba River and from all appearances were devoted Lutherans from the beginning. Origin: The Summers family is said to be of Flemish origin, and to have been first known in England at the time of the Reformation. Property was granted to them at a former religious seat a short distance from Worcester, and this became the family seat. Here they resided and here they entertained Queen Elizabeth in her progress through Worcestershire in 1585. Many of the members of this family became men of distinction and renown. One branch of the family moved into Dorsetshire, England, and it is from this branch that the Virginian family is descended. The name is variously spelled Somers, Sommers, Sumers and Summers, but the Virginians of this stock have in general used the form Summers. As is well known, the tracing of ancestries in Virginian families is attended with much difficulty and many dangers of error, so that the results are often incomplete or uncertain, if not both. In the present case there is much more material for judgment than in many, and the following acc! ount is based on good evidence and confidently believed to be correct from the time of the settlement of the family in Virginia, which cannot have been greatly posterior of the coming of the family to America.

Origin: Originally My Great-Great-Grandfather's name was Gardiner (Norman). In order to evade a debt he changed his Name to Sutton since he lived in that town in Surrey, England, UK. They were (some still are) Farmers. The name originally means from the South of Town as indicated above. However, it was not uncommon in the UK from before the Dark Ages to give your Surname as that of were you were originally from. This is not to be confused with being Lord of that Manor, in which case you would be John De Sutton, for example. This, as in my case, could be the origin of other people having this Surname. Sutton is a very pleasant town not too far from London, and I feel a bit like I "own" the place, but I have'nt succeded in getting any free beers there yet for having our Surname (have a go! sic). Chris Sutton is a well known Soccer player (Striker) in the UK (Plays for Glasgow Celtic at the moment). Most Suttons in the UK live in the South and East, and have Blonde Hair (We have Dark Hair). Nevertheless I am proud to bear the Sutton given Surname from my Father.

Origin: Earliest appearance of the SULOUFF surname is in the 1783 tax record for Brecknock Twp., Berks Co. Pa., where it is spelled SULOUF. Prior to that time it was spelled ZULAUF or ZULAUFF, and it was brought to America by a Hessian soldier named Johannes ZULAUF who arrived at Staten Island 15 August 1776. The surname ZULAUF is the German noun 'crowd' or 'throng' and the German verb 'run to.' The surname went through slightly variant spellings in Berks Co. and York Co. Pa. between 1783 and 1802, and finally it settled to the spelling SULOUFF in Mifflin (now Juniata) Co. after 1802. Two sons continued using the spelling SULOUFF while two sons simplified the surname to SULOFF. These two spellings continue among descendants to this day (January 2005).

Origin: Origin of SULOFF in Pennsylvania derives from ZULAUF, the surname of a Hessian soldier who arrived in America in 1776. In 1779 he became a POW in Reading Pa. First change of spelling for his surname to SULOUF is found in tax record for Robeson Twp., Berks Co. PA in 1783. First change of spelling among descendants to SULOFF is found in Mifflin Co. (now Juniata Co.) about 1840. Original meaning of ZULAUF is German word for "run together" or "run toward" and possibly is a place-related surname based upon conjunction of a trail or juncture of streams in the province of Hesse-Cassel (now Germany).

Origin: Sukeforth comes from a Hessian Soldier who was captured and released during the revolutionary war. His original name was too difficult to spell (the name is similar to Zukenford) and the name was changed to Sukeforth. All Sukeforth's supposedly come from this one solder. According to one census there are 1250 Sukeforth's in the United States! This is all from a relative who wrote a family history which I read a few years ago.
