William Curtis arrived from Nazing, Essex, England on board the Lyon on 16 September 1632. He came with his wife, Sarah and four children: Thomas, Mary, John and Philip. He became a Freeman 4 March 1633. According to The Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England, p 484, their eldest son William arrived in 1631 and died in 1634. It also says William and Sarah had here Hannah, Elizabeth, and Issac, b. 22 July 1641. According to an old copy of family history William was descended from Stephen Curtis(s) of Appledore, Kent County, England. Stephen was great-grandfather to Thomas Curtis who lived in Appledore in 1527. After that there is a void until William arrives in MA. |
