Some have said first in Queen's County, Ireland. The Dempseys were associated with the second century Irish King, Cathair Mor. Origin: Seibert has it's origins as a Germanic Patronymic name. It has 40 some-odd variations in spelling and pronunciation. It's original spelling came from two root words, 'siege' and 'beraht', meaning 'victorious & brilliant one, famous'. These two words combined, create the earliest common form of 'Siegbert'. Before World War I and during the Austrian Monarchy, it 'became' predominitely a 'Jewish' name, and for that reason was eventually avoided by non- Jews. It is often confused with the more common name of 'Siegfried', which means 'victory & peace'. Names such as these are cate- gorized as the 'victory' names, used to depict terms of battle or warfare.... Siegbert: Victory-Bright Siegfried: Victory-Peace Sigismund/Sigmond: Victory- Mountain These names are now commonly depicted as Seibert, Siefert, Simmonds, & Simon.... As a Jewish name, these are possibly descriptive of the tribe of Simeon(Shimon)... commonly the Jews used the 1st sylabble of a German name to depict the tribe they were thought to be from, in this case the Hebrew letter 'Shin'.

One descendant, Hans Rudisuli, moved to Michelfeld Germany about 1661 and started a family there and the name was Germanized to 'Rudisile'. In the early 1700s, several of Hans' grandchildren migrated to America, where the name was changed again to 'Rudisill'. Since then there have been over 40 spelling variations on the name.

Origin: The German family name Hassinger is classified as being of personal name origin. When a name is de-rived from a personal name, it is usually the name of the bearer's father or mother which is adopted and trans-formed into a fixed hereditary family name. This name is then proudly transmitted from generation to generation. The family name Hassinger developed from 'Hasso', a pet form of several old Germanic personal names.

Origin: In an in-depth research of such ancient manuscripts as the Domesday Book compiled in 1086 AD by Duke William of Normandy, the Ragman Rolls (1291-1296) collected by King Edward 1st of England, the Curia Regis Rolls, the Pipe Rolls, the Hearth Rolls, parish registers, baptismals, tax records and other ancient documents, researchers found the first record of the name Simpson in Buckinghamshire where they had been seated since ancient times. Confusing to most, we found many different spellings in the archives researched. Although your name, Simpson, occurred in many manuscripts, from time to time the surname was also spelt Simson, Simsoun, Symsoun, Simpsone and these changes in spelling frequently occurred, even between father and son. Obtained from the Library of Hall of Names in London by Eric Simpson.

Origin: There are Irish Foxes and Cambro-Norman Foxes in Ireland. The origins of the Irish Fox name are commonly believed to originate with 11th century Tadhg 'The Fox' O'Catharnaigh, chief of Teathbha (or Teffia), who was apparently clever 'like a fox' in battle as well as in acquiring land. Several Irish annals point to a different story - that in the year 1024 'the men of Teathbha' killed Ireland's chief poet/historian of that era - and that they in turn were killed and left unburied, afterwards acquiring a foul odor. Another version has the killer or killers remaining alive after their evil deed, but forever after carried a foul odor with them (divine retribution). The odor was similar to that of a fox, which has a scent similar to that of a skunk.%0a%0aThis unfortunate story does not carry any more credibility than the first story simply because, in a time period when people might easily change their names to suit their purposes, it is hard to believe subsequent generations would CHOOSE to perpetuate a surname which had socially negative connotations.%0a%0aFor more on the Fox name and Fox history, as well as background to the Cambro-Norman Foxes, see Fox Clan website at the link directly above.
