Origin of Selma, Meaning of Selma
Origin: Basically the origin of the name is the small town Schneverdingen in nothern Germany, where are places nearby called Insel and Hoepen. This area was owned by the saxonian leader Cordt tom Hoepen, later during the 17th century the name was changed to Inselmann, because of the local nobility, who seperated the land owners (lower nobility: marked by the word 'tom') and the higher nobility. The first use of the name is documented in 1605.
