Origin: I stumbled across two possible origins. The name Grubbs is Scottish. They where people of short stature. Also Grubbs, as they were called, were writing hacks in England. They did mostly document copying for the gov. I am still unsure of the validity of this information, but perhaps it may make a good starting point.

Origin: Rubio is a fairly common and widespread surname in Spain (where it has its origin) and in Latin America. It probably originated in the North of Spain, being evidence that it comes from the coastal town of Laredo, near Santander, in the region of Cantabria. Origin: In a visit to Switzerland in 2003, my wife and I found (very) distant relations living in Switzerland. From them, we learned our family originated in the Trub area of Switzerland and were coal miners. "Schwarzentruber" or, originally in that area, "Schwarztrub", means "The black faced me from Trub".
