He also had a Sister Bassie Davis She is my Great Grand Aunt Richard & Mary - they called her Bambi had only one child my Grand Father Samuel Davis aka (Samuel Jofar) Born 1883,in Richmond, Virginia. He ran away from home and was able to pass as white; He joined the Merchant Marine and lived in Brazil with a Family named Jofar. After he returned to America and rejoined his family he told them that Davis was a Slave name and his free name was Jofar. He would never use that name again he was not a slave to any Man, His father did not like this and there were many family arguments about it. Samuel Jofar married Ella Pierman my Grandmother she was Born 1884 in Lynchburg, Virginia the Jofar & Davis family arrived in Phoenix, Arizona about 1915 Just before the Birth of my Mother Wyona Jofar-Beasley. Samuel Jofar Became one of the 1st Black Doctor's in the state of Arizona He was a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine His Office was located near 11th Street & Washington in Phoenix, Arizona He was also a Barber And I still can remember my 1st hair cut as a child. Richard & Mary Davis are buried at Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona Samuel & Ella Jofar are buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona The Children of Samuel & Ella Jofar are: Wyona L. The Beard and Miller Families Home Page
William Andrew Beard, my g-g-grandfather was born in Ohio in April 1832, his father came from Pennsylvania. William Andrew Beard lived in Henepin County in Minnesota, he wound-up in Stone County Arkansas, where he died in 1909. I believe that his marriage to Floella Jane Hendrickson was a second time around for both, she brought two children from her first marriage. Both children went by the last name of Beard, their names were Cora B. and William H.. The Millers are my wife's family, she knows that her grandfather was Vern Miller and not much more than he was supposed to have died in Iowa. Fredrick Morgan Strube was her g-g-grandfather on her mother's side, he was married to Anna L. Marsh. |

my great grandfather, John/Jonas Heinrich Thomsen came to this country in the early 1900's from Germany. His date of birth is January 24, 1857 in Witbeckfield, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany and he died December 10, 1937 in Winside, NE. He is buried at Valley View Cemetery in rural, Persia, IA. He was married to Margarethe Hansen in 1879 in Germany. She died in Germany in 1901 and is buried there. They had 8 children: Christine, Alvina, Hans, Margaretha, Mathilde, Johanna, Peter and Emma. They all entered this country through Ellis Island and their destination was Fritz Thomsen (brother of John)in Persia, IA. family of Nico Bohm. He was born in Germany July 20, 1882 and was killed in a farming accident by Winside, Nebraska March 29, 1946. He had one sister, Lucie Bohm Nissen that lived in Minnesota. Thomas Mark Yeates and May Price - I know that Thomas was a foreman on the Sydney Harbour retaining wall project, that they had five (5)? children being:-Nelson Frank, Eva, Thomas, Herbert and Norman, all of the children were born in Sydney, the family then moved to West Wallsend, NSW, Australia. Nelson married Ellen Durie in 1912 and they had 3 children James, Nelson Frank (my grandfather on my mother's side) and Elvie Eva. James Durie and Mary Ann Martin married 1892. they had six (6)? children - Ellen, John, Rose, Amy & Mary (twins) Jim and Vera. James Black and Marjory or Margary Grubb married cir 1880 in Scotland. Both were born in Scotland with Marjory being born in Largo. They lived in Minmi NSW Australia. They had five (5)? children - Katherine, Jean, John, James and William. William was killed in WWI. Katherine married Joseph Thompson in 1917 and had 2 daughters Marjory (my grandmother on my mother's side) and Mary (also known as Mollie) Joseph Thompson and Mary Ann Elliott - they had at least one son Joseph born 1888 who married Katherine Black at Minmi in 1917. |

Their son,Stephen Lyman Bates, was born in 1807 in Owego,NY and died in the Rockford, Illinois area in 1860.His son Levi Decatur Bates was born in 1836 in Owego,NY. His son Mark General Bates was born in 1886 in Long Pine,Nebraska. My father, Edward M. Bates was born in 1920 in Washington State. my paternal grandmother, Ollie Deweese, had family in Wa, Ne, Kentucky, and Pa after leaving Holland. My mothers maiden name was Kiichle and her grandparents immigrated from Germany to Ohio, Wisconsin, Idaho and Washington. Most of her relatives may have gone to Canada. My maternal grandmothers family were the Claytons who were from Wa, Missouri, and Maryland. My wifes maiden name is May and her relatives come from the Spokane, Washington area. Her maternal grandparents had the last name of Marks and Fleenor and lived in Spokane also. We are also looking at the Strand families of Oregon and Wisconsin as they are related through marriage as are the Smack family of Philadelphia and New Jersey. Other related families through marriage are the Ruby's of Iowa and Illinois and Knotts of Oregon. |

My Great-Grandfather Charles (Karl) Baschnagel was born in the Grand Duchy of Baden (Germany) in 1850 and came to this country in 1864. He married Anna Schneider in Scranton, PA and together they had 3 children, Margaret, Elizabeth and Charles. They later moved to New York City (Manhattan), NY. My Grandfather Charles married Christina Renner and together they had 3 children, Helen, Arthur and Walter. They later moved to Kingston, NY. My father Walter married Marion Thomas and together they had 2 children, Margaret and Walter. My Great-Grandfather William (Johann Wilhelm) Thomas was born in Wilgersdorf, Prussia in 1824 and came to this country in 1852 with his wife Catherine Kutcher and son, Henry (Heinrich), and settled in Kingston, NY. He and Catherine had 4 children, one of whom was my Grandfather Charles Thomas. My Grandfather Charles Thomas married Isabella Archambault with whom he had 14 children, one of whom was my mother Marion Thomas. My wife's paternal grandparents were John Oliver Smith and Elizabeth Johnson. They resided in Ridgefield Park, Middlesex County, New Jersey in 1910 with four children, one of whom was John Oliver Smith(Jr), her father. Her maternal grandparents were Imre (James) Nemeth and Anna Mesic. They immigrated from Hungary prior to 1915 and were married in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on May 22, 1915, where they resided until their death. They had five children one of whom was her mother, Anna Nemeth.
