The Barbara Bornn Balch Family Home Page
The oldest ancestor I have now is Jan Born (father of Bartholomew BORNN from St. Thomas, VI) who was born on the island of Curacao. He emigrated to Saint Thomas sometime in the early 1800's. At the time he lived there, it was under Danish rule. He was a goldsmith. Bartholomew was a jeweler and an elder in the Dutch Reform Church. He had at least 16 children who reached maturity. Early in this century, some of his children settled in Cuba, Haiti, Mexico, Trinidad and New York City as well as St. Thomas. My mother's line is Italian and Slavic. From northern Italy and Trieste come RICHMAN and KERNITICH. From southern Italy (Calabria and Sicily) come the surnames of PENNA; SECECI;MARTINO and GALIMBO. Francesco Penna and Francesco Martino both arrived in New York City around 1909 from southern Italy. |
