Reverend Joseph Adams of Newington
Rev. Jos. Adams was the son of Joseph Adams and Hannah Bass Adams of Braintree Mass. He was born Jan 4, 1688. His mother Hannah Bass is the daughter of Ruth Alden Bass, daughter of John and Priscilla Alden of the Mayflower. Rev Jos. Adams brother Deacon John Adams,of Braintree, MA, was the father of 2nd President of the US, John Adams. Rev Jos. Adams had 5 children. I am a descendant of his son Deacon Benjamin, b.1-18-1729 in Newington. Deacon Benjamin was a volunteer in the Revolution, Col. Enoch Hale's Reg. and a delegate to the convention which adopted the Federal Constitution. His son Nathan Webb, b. 5-16-1756 in Newington, NH had 11 children. His daughter Betsy b. 2-6-1798 married James Roberts of Portsmouth, NH and had 7 children. Her 6th child Eliza Abby J Roberts b. 9-19-1830, married Granville Wallingford Knox on Sept 8, 1951 and they resided at the Adams Homestead in Newington. Eliza died on 9-4-1891 and her sister Abra Helen b. 1-5-1835,widow of Richard Garrett, married Granville Wallingford Knox. Eliza and Granville had Evelyn Louise, James Howard and Mary Ellen. Evelyn Louise married Albert Mark Pray of Portsmouth. James Howard Knox married Paulina Shaw, father was George Shaw. James and Paulina had Pauline, Elbridge and Granville Shaw. My Grampie is Granville Shaw. Evelyn and Albert Pray had 8 children, Son Richard married Mable Morang and had Marjorie, Louise and Albert who died at 2 mos. |

His father John Hilyer Ashby, a Baptist minister relocated his family to Asbury Park, NJ approx 1915. My mother's family the Richardsons and Reveys have resided in Mommouth County NJ USA since the 1700's. Her grandmother immigrated from Ireland, being the first child born in the New World in 1850's. The father, Howard Thorn was originally from Barbados and had gone to England and then to Ireland where he met and married Margaret McBride. They had nine children.
