John Allen was born about 1774near New Baltimore, Va., and was a farmer and a blacksmith. He married Rosilla Jane Wiles and togther they were the parents of seven children. \r\nJohn and Rosilla's fourth son, James, was raised a farmer and settled near Independence (now called Butler), Ohio in 1842. With his first wife Eliza Morris of Pennsylvania, James had two daughters and five sons. Eliza died in 1844.
