Niels Hansen Schack was Danish, perhaps born int eh Schleswig Holstein area of Germany. I know he studied botany at the University of Copenhagen.I think he had many relatives in Denmark as he visited often, but found postcards dated 1909 that were sent to him in Schleswig at perhaps his fathers residence (Adr.Herr.A. Schack), Astrup for Scherrebeck, Nord=Schleswig, Deutschland, Europa). He died in the 1950's in Muskegon, Mi. He married Anna Margaret Petersen in Chicago Oct. 9, 1909. The had 3 children, AndersNeilsen, Anna Maragaret and Woodrow Peter. About 1925 they bought a farm in Michigan (Bitely) and moved there permanently in 1932, as my mother Anna graduated from Hesperia High School in 1933. |
