Her father was JAMES BURKE born circa 1846 and her Mother was BRIDGET (MEEHAN) BURKE born circa 1861 (Formerly from Leawe, Co Mayo). JAMES BURKE?s father?s name was MICHAEL BURKE. He resided in NEWTOWN, CLOONFAD, County Roscommon. I have no information on MICHAEL BURKE?s spouse or siblings other than my grandfather, JAMES BURKE. MARY ELLEN?s brothers were JOHN MARTIN born 13 Nov 1881 (Died Dec 1959, Manchester, England), THOMAS born 4 Oct 1883 (Died 10 Nov 1955, Gortamarle (Parke), JAMES born circa 1887 (Died 1920's Chicago, Illinois, USA), PATRICK born circa 1889 (Died 1920's Chicago, Illinois, USA) & MICHAEL born circa 1893 (Died, date unknown, Manchester, England). Her sisters were DELIA born circa 1891 (Died, date unknown, Chicago, Illinois, USA) and KATE ANN born 23 Feb 1900 (Died 17 Apr 1976, Cloonfad, County Roscommon, Ireland). Residing with them were their mother-in-law BRIDGET MEEHAN, age circa 80 years young in 1901. MARY ELLEN immigrated to New York City (Ellis Island), via Queenstown, Co Cork, Ireland on 20 Apr 1913 on the ship ?CARMANIA.? She met her first husband, THOMAS JOSEPH MULDOWNEY, born circa 1892 (Died 1935, Chicago, Illinois, USA), from Aghataharn, Kilkelly, Co Mayo, on this ship. They settled in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. They were married from Jul 1913 to Feb 1931. MARY ELLEN changed her name to HELEN MULDOWNEY when she married THOMAS JOSEPH MULDOWNEY.
