We supose that come from the city Rochefort, Charentes-Maritimes in France because a lot of Acadians come from this place. The name of the first men who went to Acadie was Hurette dit Rochefort... probably the real name was Hurette and dit (say) Rochefort was his origin...

Origin: Origin: My great-grandfather was black, my great-grandmother was Mohawk. I was always under the impression that since my ancestry was by part black, that when they became free slaves they subsequently took the surname Whitford out of thin air. If there is another theory I would be interested in learning more.
