The Rae's from Scotland to New Zealand
John Rae died at his residence of 5 Ronald Street, Glasgow on 01 November 1879. Married Helen Macfarlane 20 July 1818. Two known daughters Elizabeth and Isabella were born in Campsie, Stirling in 1821 and 1823. Their brother William Gibson Rae was born in Barony in 1824. These children later travelled to New Zealand. The Hightowers of Georgia and South Carolina
It all began with Jack Hightower(Brown) two years before the Civil War ended. The story goes that this slave from Saluda county was bought by the Hightower plantation in Aiken, South Carolina. He was given the choice to keep the name he had (Brown) or change his name to the name of the white plantation owners, Hightower. He chose to change his name; thereby becoming Jack Hightower. Jack move to Trenton, South Carolina and married a woman by the name of Emma Boram, to this union thirteen children were born. The children were: Issac and his twin sister Phyllis, Curtis, Wilar, (names to be added. I, Sheila Cynthia Hightower Allen, am the granddaughter of Curtis Robert, who was better known as Cutt. Cutt married Louise Moss Hightower, his third wife, and had nineteen children. My father, James Thongual was his seventh child. (My grandfather Cutt was also the seventh child born to my grandfather Jack.)My surviving aunts and uncles are/were: Curtis, Zendell, Henry, Herman, David, Earl, Ola, Justine, Blanche, Louise, Clarence, Estelle and Mary. My father, James Thongual Hightower, married Eva Gwendolyn Washington and had four children: me, Pamela Nannette,Yvonne La'Chelle, Shontel Therese. And a son, James Blackmon, during his teen years. |
