Origin of Ooley Total Records: 1  Origin of Ooley, Meaning of Ooley Origin: James Hooley was born 1790-1804 in Ireland. He had two sons, Richard M., b. 1822 & John, b. 1824, Ballina, Co. Mayo, Ireland. James was a merchant and moved his family to Manchester, England 1824-1832. Moved to the U.S. in the 1840's. They were in the theatrical business, B'klyn & Chicago. They had a sister named Nancy Hooley, b. 1832. There also was a Mary Hooley (single), b. 1846 England also living with the family in 1860 in New York City.
