Clark was born in Whitby on 11 November 1853, 3 weeks after his parents arrived there. James was a member of Whitby Masonic Lodge, where his father Charles was the first Grand Master of the Whitby Lodge. James was married to Isabel Clough, (nothing else is known about her) James parents were Charles William Clark and Anna (Merwin) Clark. Charles was born in Saybrook, Middlesex, Connecticut, and Anna was born in New York. James later moved to Toronto, Canada, where he was a photographer. I lose him after the 1880 census.
