Origin: According to info I found the name Guthrie,(22 diff. spellings) goes back to the ancient Irish name O'Lahiff. The Scots did come from Ireland & the two were one people around one thousand years ago. The Scots & Picts merged also. Guthrie does mean 'a high windy place'. Highlands!

Origin of Nix, Meaning of Nix

Origin: Mannix is the usual form in English of the ancient Gaelic surname O'Mainchin, pronounced O'Man-heen.The 'O' means grandson of.The personal name Mainchin is a derivative of the Gaelic manarc a monk, this is to do with the duties of a monk.Following the anglicising of Ireland from about the 16th.century onwards,it became a drawback to have a Gaelic name, hence the Gaelic names began to be anglicised.Apart from Mannix other forms of the name are Manahan,Macgenis, this is more normal in Northern Ireland,Minogue, this is used in parts of East Clare and in parts of Tipperary. In some census, especially in America,it is not uncommon to find a father named Minogue and his children calling themselves Mannix.Other spellings of Mannix are Manix,Manyx, and Mannicks, although this last one is usually to do with an assumption by the writer of the spelling.
