Their ancestors for the most part originated in England, Ireland and the Isle of Mann with a good many coming to America prior to the U.S. becoming a country. During the past 100 years most have lived in south Alabama and northwest Florida. John Mattison McDavid was born in County Antrim, Ireland in 1710 and died in 1780 in Greenville Co., S.C. He married Anne Allen in 1730 in County Antrim, Ireland and came to America on their honeymoon and landed in Virginia. Their son, John Allen McDavid Sr. was born May 1, 1774. in Greenvile Co., S.C. and died Aril 30, 1838 at Oak Grove, Fla. He married Nancy Acker (born in 1781 in New Jersey), the daughter of Peter Acker Sr. and Jane Southland. John and Nancy's son, Richmond Terrell McDavid, born Dec. 3, 1805 married Sarah McCaskill in 1827. Richmond Terrell McDavid died June 27, 1891 in Santa Rosa County (Coon Hill), Fla.
