Cambria, Il, once a coal mining village in Williamson County, had several names. It was first called Fredonia as a stop on a railway line between Carterville & Carbondale. Named for the daughter of the postmaster who was later the postmistress herself. Other names were Lauder & Reeves. Lastly named Cambria by a Welch miner - a name from his homeland. Cunningham & Ann Eliza Richart Kennedy built a brick home there about 1875. Later owners their daughter & family, David & Sadie Kennedy Mohan, then their son James E. & Dorothy Mohan. |
