Nova Scotia Pioneer French Settlement
A group of French Immigrant Coal Miners came to Nova Scotia in the 1873-74 time period to work in our coal mines.Approx 400 miners came from the coal region of France with the promise of plenty of work and good wages ,but this proved to be false and most left .A group stayed in Pictou County and attempted to start a settlement called Raymond-ville.This settlement lasted untill 1942 when the Bonnet family moved to Lorne ,Pictou County. We are publishing a book for the French celebrations in Nova Scotia and Canada 2004. We would like any information on these people ,their ancestors, way of life in France before they immigrated to Nova Scotia, |
